How to give and manage Shoutouts in Microsoft Teams with the Culture Amp app. A simple way to recognize and appreciate your team!

Who is this guide for?

Employees

Recognizing and appreciating colleagues is easy with the Culture Amp app in Microsoft Teams. Shoutouts are a great way to acknowledge the efforts of your team members. In this article, we’ll walk you through how to use Shoutouts in Microsoft Teams and get started with Culture Amp.

How Shoutouts in Microsoft Teams Works

When you add the Culture Amp app to a Team, you can give recognition by including the word "shoutout" in your message and tagging one or more colleagues. The app responds with a short reply in the thread of your message. To view shoutouts given and received, navigate to the Shoutouts feed in Culture Amp.

💡 Tip: Check out our guide on Automated Responses in Shoutouts to learn about automated replies.

📌 Note: Automated responses are different from auto-reactions like emojis. Auto-reactions aren’t available in MS Teams—only in Slack. For more info, see our Slack Shoutouts guide.

Getting Started with Shoutouts in Microsoft Teams is Simple

  1. Add the Culture Amp App: Invite the Culture Amp app to a Team in Microsoft Teams. If the app isn’t added yet, a channel owner or Teams Admin can add it using these steps.

  2. Give a Shoutout: Give a shoutout by including the word ‘shoutout’ in the body of your message, like this: ‘shoutout @teammate and the awesome thing they did.’ You don’t need to start with a slash command ("/") or the word "shoutout". In addition to the word ‘shoutout’, your company may have tailored Shoutouts by adding other keywords to listen for (for example, mad props, kudos).

  3. Add a Value to Your Shoutout: Select a value from the drop-down in the message thread to highlight the specific value demonstrated by your colleague.

    1. Who Can Add a Value: Any team member with access to the team where the shoutout was given can select a value.

    2. Who Can Delete a Shoutout: Any team member with access to the team can remove the shoutout by selecting "Unmark as shoutout."

How Shoutouts Appear to the Sender and Recipient

Shoutouts look almost the same for both the sender and the recipient. The only difference is the dark/light theme that each individual may have set in Microsoft Teams.

  • Leaderboard: Users who gave and received the most shoutouts.

  • Company Tab Filter: Filter shoutouts by all, given, or received.

Your feed (Home page)

When you receive a shoutout, it will also show up under Your feed on the Home page.
