How do you move from survey results to creating actions? Holding a results-to-action workshop can be an efficient way to support a collaborative and effective process.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to conduct a workshop to help you move from results to action. It includes a downloadable PDF workbook and a link to Culture Amp’s workshop template in Miro.
Move from Survey results to actions
The easy part of conducting employee engagement surveys is collecting the data, the hard part is knowing where to take action effectively.
Moving from results to action can be challenging but our people scientists have identified some crucial steps for a workshop that can make the process less painful, more collaborative and effective.
Choose the workshop style that fits your organisation
Every organisation has different needs and contexts, so it’s important to take a workshop approach that fits your unique situation.
This article covers:
General overview of running a results-to-action workshop, which can be applied to in-person, hybrid or online collaboration using a variety of tools. We’ve included a downloadable PDF workbook to guide facilitators and participants.
A customisable results-to-action workshop template in Miro, which is ideal for online collaboration and requires participants to have a Miro account (free or paid).
General overview of results-to-action workshop
When setting up to run a workshop, we recommend the following steps.
To help guide facilitators and participants through the workshop process, you can also download the PDF workbook.
Pre-workshop:
Take time to look at your survey results and think about your people and culture objectives and other pillars of strategy. We recommend you summarise the main survey takeaways for your workshop – you can do this easily using the template in the PDF workbook or the Miro template.
Book a 90-minute meeting with your key stakeholders. Send them a pre-read of the survey results and ask them to think about what stood out to them.
During the workshop:
Ensure all employees are able to contribute by setting some rules of engagement in the session. This will ensure they feel comfortable sharing their opinions.
Review the results together to make sure you are all on the same page
Brain writing is an activity which gives workshop participants an opportunity to have a voice and share their opinion and ideas. Brain writing is a way to encourage diversity of thought. Get your participants to ideate and write down their thoughts individually, then have them come together, go through the ideas and have another round of brainwriting. Then, vote on the best idea!
If you can’t easily decide on the best idea, an effort vs impact matrix may be helpful (see PDF workbook for an example). Plot each idea on the matrix depending on how much effort it would take and how much potential impact it would have.
Close out the session with some accountability. Make sure you clearly plan what you are going to do, by when and who is accountable for the action.
Post workshop:
Last but not least, check in on the action. See our guide on how to create an Action Index.
Miro workshop template – ideal for online collaboration
Miro is a digital whiteboard that makes it easy to collaborate with others. You and your team can access the same Miro board and add content simultaneously. Miro can be used for in-person or remote collaboration sessions.
Culture Amp has created a results-to-action workshop template in Miro that steps the facilitator and participants through our recommended process.
Take a look at Culture Amp’s results-to-action workshop template in Miro.
