  • All Culture Amp subscriptions that include Performance (Self-reflection cycles only)

What is competency-guided feedback?


Competency-guided reviews empower employees to align their self-reflections, peer feedback, and manager reviews with role expectations and career path competencies. This approach not only ensures more specific feedback but also brings consistency across roles, streamlining the transition from feedback to development.

Note: Competencies will initially be available for self-reflections only. They will be included in manager reviews, peer feedback, and calibrations starting Q1 2025.

How to set up competency-guided reviews


To activate competencies in employee profiles during performance reviews, follow these steps:

Set Job group visibility to "All Employees"

Ensure that the job group associated with each role is set to "All Employees" to make competencies visible in employee profiles.

Assign employees to relevant roles

Ensure employees are assigned to the appropriate roles to allow them to access role-specific competencies.

Navigate to Performance reviews

Once job group visibility and employee-role assignments are set:

  • Go to: Perform > Self-reflections in Culture Amp.

  • During the self-reflection process, employees will see a tab called Role competencies.

  • This tab allows employees to easily view competencies specific to their role making it easier to give detailed and thoughtful feedback.

Additional notes


  • Develop administrator permission: If you need to edit career paths, the new Develop administrator permission lets you share editing access with other users.

  • Bulk import competencies: Use the bulk import feature to set up or update competencies across roles more efficiently.
