Activate Culture Amp MCP for your account

Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your Culture Amp account to check survey results, prepare performance reviews, and manage 1-on-1 conversations.

Written by Jessie Walsh

🔐 Who can use this feature?

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that enables AI assistants (such as Claude and ChatGPT) to securely connect directly to your organization's Culture Amp data.

When activated, users in your organization can interact with Culture Amp data directly within their AI assistant environment based on their existing product access:

  • Engagement: View scores, participation, and benchmarks across launched surveys (Read-only; respects report sharing and confidentiality limits).

  • Performance: Retrieve past feedback for self or direct reports to assist with review prep (Read-only; excludes active reviews).

  • 1-on-1s: View agendas, add topics or notes, and manage action items (Read/Write; restricted to conversations the user belongs to).

Technical & Security Prerequisites

  • Permissions & Security: MCP respects Culture Amp's existing role-based access controls (RBAC). The connection acts on behalf of the individual user; AI assistants can only access data the connecting user is already explicitly authorized to view.

  • Supported AI Tools: Currently tested with Claude and ChatGPT. Additional MCP-compatible AI tools will be supported over time.

  • Single Sign-On (SSO) Compatibility:

    • Supported: Self-service SSO setup, Google Workspace, and direct Culture Amp credentials.

    • Unsupported: Legacy/custom SAML SSO configurations do not currently support MCP connection authentication. If your account uses a legacy SAML setup, users will need to authenticate using Google or a password, or you can migrate to the self-service SSO flow.

1. Register Your Organization

Submit a registration request at cultureamp.com/mcp.

ℹ️ Note: Access is evaluated per organization to ensure fit. Registration does not guarantee immediate activation.

2. Await Confirmation

Culture Amp will review your account eligibility and notify you once your organization is cleared for setup.

3. Activate MCP in Administration

Once approved:

  1. Log in to Culture Amp as an Account Administrator.

  2. Navigate to Administration > Account > MCP.

  3. Toggle Activate MCP to ON.

4. Distribute the Connection Address

Once activated, a connection address will appear on the same screen for you to copy.

  • Copy this full URL and share it internally with users who wish to connect their AI tools.

  • Users will need this address to complete their individual setup (refer them to the User Enablement Guide). If you want to set up MCP for yourself, follow the same process.

Managing & Disabling Access

As an Account Administrator, you maintain full control over organization-wide access:

  • Disable Globally: Navigate to Administration > Account > MCP and toggle Activate MCP to OFF. This immediately revokes connection access for all users across the organization.

  • Individual Disconnection:

    • If an individual removes the connector inside their AI tool, their active session/token remains valid until expiration.

Troubleshooting

  • The connection fails, or returns a "not found" error: Copy the address again from the MCP settings screen on the MCP settings screen, and share the full address. A truncated or mistyped address is the most common cause.

  • A person says the assistant tells them MCP tools aren't available for their account: Check that Activate MCP is switched on in Administration > Account > MCP. If it's already on, open a Support Conversation.

FAQ

Who do I speak to at Culture Amp to get access?

There's no need to reach out to a Culture Amp contact directly. Register your organization at cultureamp.com/mcp and someone will be in touch after that's submitted.

Does this cost anything extra?

No, there's no additional cost for the connection today.

How does this differ from the Culture Amp API?

This isn't the Culture Amp API: this connection uses your normal Culture Amp sign-in, not a developer account, API key, or separate credential setup. See the Culture Amp API article for how that separate option works.
