Editing a Goal

Whether your goal is still in draft form or has been published, you can make changes as needed.

How to Edit:

  1. On the Goals page, locate the goal you want to edit.

  2. Click the ellipsis (⋯) next to the goal.

  3. Select Edit from the menu.

  4. Make your changes and click Save to update the goal.

Note: While most goal details can be edited after publication, the goal type (individual, development, or group) cannot be changed, even by an account administrator. To correct the goal type, the goal must be deleted and recreated.

Updating Goal Progress

Keeping your goals up-to-date is crucial for tracking progress and making adjustments as needed.

Without Key Results

If your goal doesn’t have key results, follow these steps:

  1. On the Goals page, locate the goal you want to update and click on View to open.

  2. Click Update progress.

  3. Use the drop-down menu to select the new goal status and adjust the value as needed (values can be below the start value or above the target value).

  4. Click Update to save your changes.

Goal Statuses Available:

  • Default status after publishing a draft goal.

  • The goal is progressing as planned and is on track to be achieved by the due date.

  • Suggests the goal is significantly behind and is unlikely to be achieved by the due date.

  • Displays a red progress donut.

  • Suggests reaching the target by the due date is potentially not achievable.

  • Displays a yellow progress donut.

  • The goal has been successfully achieved.

  • Displays a green progress donut.

With Key Results

For goals with key results, you need to update each key result individually:

  1. On the Goals page, find the goal and click on it to open.

  2. Click Update progress beside each key result (you must be the goal owner or the key result owner to make updates).

  3. Use the drop-down menu to select the new status and adjust the value for each key result.

  4. Click Update to save the changes.

Key Result Status Impact

If a goal has at least two key results, each key result’s status influences the overall goal status percentage. Review how the status of each key result affects the goal status.

Just click View next to the required goal, and you will see a text box allowing you to leave a comment. Click Add comment to save your input.

Deleting a Comment

If you've left a comment on a goal and need to remove it, you can! Only the employee who posted the comment or a Performance administrator can remove it.

To Delete a Goal Comment:

  1. Access the goal from your Goals page

  2. Click the ellipsis icon "..." next to the comment.

  3. Select Delete.

  4. Confirm by clicking Delete again to remove the comment permanently.

  2. Locate and click on the goal you want to complete.

  5. Click Update.

  6. Repeat these steps for each key result to mark the entire goal as completed.

Copying a Goal

Copying a goal helps you quickly duplicate an existing goal without starting from scratch. You can copy any goal you own or have administrative access to from either the Goal list view or Goal detail view.

Copy a Goal from the List View

  1. Navigate to the Goals page.

  2. Locate the goal you wish to copy in the list.

  3. Click the ellipsis (...) icon next to the goal.

  4. Select Copy goal from the dropdown menu.

  5. Rename and update as needed.

  6. Click Publish goal or Save draft.

A duplicate of the selected goal will appear in the list.

Copy a Goal from the Goal Detail View

  1. Open the specific goal you want to copy by clicking its title.

  2. In the top right corner of the goal detail view, click the ellipsis (...) icon.

  3. Select Copy goal from the menu.

  4. Rename and update as needed.

  5. Click Publish goal or Save draft.

Note: If you're seeing an error when trying to publish a copied goal, make sure the Group field is populated. For Company and Group goals, this field doesn’t always copy over automatically, so you may need to enter it manually before publishing.

Manage your Duplicated Goals

Once a goal is copied, you can edit its title, due date, and key details to align with your current objectives.

Assigning a Goal to Another Person

You can transfer goal ownership whether the goal is in draft or published status.

  • Draft State If you’re the goal creator and you assign the goal to someone else, you can still view, publish, edit, and delete the goal until it’s published. The new goal owner will also have these permissions.

  • Published State Once a goal is published, the new goal owner will be able to view, edit, publish, and delete the goal.

How to Update the Goal Owner

  1. On the Goals page, find the goal you want to reassign.

  2. Click the ellipsis (⋯) to open the menu and select Edit.

  3. Under the Owner dropdown, use the search field to find the employee by name.

  4. Check the box next to their name to assign them as the new goal owner. To remove yourself, uncheck your name.

  5. Click Save to update the goal.

Deleting a Goal

If you find a goal that no longer fits your objectives or was created by mistake, you can easily delete it.

How to Delete a Goal

  1. On the Goals page, locate the goal you want to delete.

  2. Click the ellipsis (...) icon next to the goal.

  3. Select Delete from the drop-down menu.

Remember: Deleting a goal is permanent and cannot be undone. It will delete the goal from all views, including your development plan if the goal was created as part of the plan. Ensure that you want to remove the goal before proceeding.

Archiving a Goal

Employees can archive goals they own to keep their active goal list focused and organized. Once archived, goals are moved to the Archive tab, which displays all goals you have permission to view.

How to Archive a Goal

You can archive a goal from two locations in the platform:

From the List View

  1. Navigate to the Goals page.

  2. Locate the goal you want to archive in the list.

  3. Click the ellipsis (...) icon next to the goal.

  4. Select Archive goal from the menu.

Note: Goals that were created through a development plan cannot currently be archived through the goals interface. If you want to remove one of these goals from appearing in your list, it would need to be deleted from the development plan.

From the Goal Detail View

  1. Open the specific goal by clicking its title.

  2. In the top-right corner of the detail view, click the ellipsis (...) icon.

  3. Select Archive goal from the menu.

Once archived, the goal will automatically appear under the Archived goals section.

Tip: If someone has left the company, use the Goal conditions filter on the Goals page to quickly identify goals that may be overdue, involve a deactivated user, or are linked to a removed group. This helps you take quick action, such as reassigning, archiving, or deleting the goal, to keep your goal list up to date.

Unarchiving a Goal

If you need to reactivate an archived goal, you can unarchive it. Only the goal owner can unarchive a goal.

How to Unarchive a Goal

You can unarchive a goal from two locations in the platform:

From the List View

  1. Go to the Goals page.

  2. Navigate to the Archived goals section.

  3. Locate the archived goal in the list.

  4. Click the ellipsis (...) icon next to the goal.

  5. Select Unarchive goal from the menu.

From the Goal Detail View

  1. Open the archived goal by clicking its title in the Archive tab.

  2. In the top-right corner of the detail view, click the ellipsis (...) icon.

  3. Select Unarchive goal from the menu.

Once unarchived, the goal will reappear under the Your goals tab.

FAQs

If I delete or archive a goal, will any aligned goals also be deleted or archived?

No, all goals are managed independently. Deleting or archiving a goal won’t affect any other goals it’s aligned with.

Why is the overall progress of a goal not matching the progress of my key results?

This can happen when a key result has been created with a start value above 0. In these cases, the overall goal progress percentage is calculated based on the progress from the start value to the target, not from 0.

For example, if a key result starts at 50% and you update it to 60%, the goal will show 20% completion (not 60%) because it’s measuring the progress you’ve made between the start (50%) and the target (100%).

This can also result in a negative overall goal completion if you move a key result backward from the start value, or zero overall goal completion if the start and target values are the same.

If you find yourself in this situation and would prefer the overall progress to match the key result completion, you can edit the goal to change the key result start value back to 0 at any time.
