Overview
Culture Amp uses a module based permissions system, allowing administrators to assign access levels across key platform areas (Surveys, Performance, Goals, Development, and Employee Data).
Administrative Scope: Full vs. Limited
Before assigning roles, it is important to understand how access is restricted:
Full Permissions: Provides organization wide authority to configure settings and view all data within that module.
Limited Permissions: Designed for targeted administration. These roles can be restricted by Demographic Scope (e.g., Department, Location, or Division), ensuring users only manage data for employees within their remit.
Tip: Explore the detailed feature breakdown to see the specific access and permissions associated with each role.
Account Level Roles
Category | Role | Overview |
Account | Account Administrator | Full access to all account settings, employee data, and engagement surveys. No demographic scoping available. |
Account | Account Configuration (Full Permissions) | Full technical access to Account Settings (General, Notifications, API, Roles). Authorized to coordinate SSO setup. Cannot view employee or survey data. No demographic scoping available. |
Employee Data | Employee Data (Full Permissions) | Manage employee data, HRIS/Compensation integrations, and sensitive demographics. |

Surveys | Surveys (Full Permissions) | Full survey admin access to all surveys and associated reports. Can't update account settings or manage employee data. |
Surveys | Surveys (Limited Permissions) | Read-only access to survey reports (with some ability to add viewers/owners) but no survey creation or admin rights. Commonly used for HR Business Partners who need scoped access to survey data so they only see results for their population.
Access only applies to Attributed (Continuous) and Attributed (Snapshot) survey types.
Scoped: Can be restricted by Account demographics. |
Performance | Performance (Full Permissions) | Full control over performance cycles and reporting, including reviews, self-reflections, peer and upward feedback and calibration views. |
Performance | Performance (Limited Permissions) | Manage live cycles (nominations, exports, calibrations). Cant: Create/duplicate cycles or edit sharing settings.

Development | Develop (Full Permissions) | Manage competencies, job groups, and Skills Coach/Development cycle invitations. |
Development | Development (Limited Permissions) | View-only access to development plans and reporting. Cant: Manage competencies, job groups, or invitations.
Scoped: Can be restricted by Account demographics. |
Goals | Goals (Full Permissions) | Can create, manage, and oversee all goals across the organization. Cannot create or manage the organizational structure.
Scoped: Can be restricted by Org Structure. |
