ℹ️ Note: This article focuses on how to use Coach in Goals. If you're an administrator looking for guidance on how to configure access to the feature, please see Admin Guide: Managing AI Coach Access & Adoption.
Use AI Coach in Goals to turn what you want to achieve into a draft goal, whether you already have a clear target or only a rough idea. You can talk with AI Coach in a side panel while you work on Goals, and Coach proposes a draft for you to review.
Coach asks for your starting point and target so that your key results can be measured, and it can draw on your existing goals and your company's goals for context. It only saves a draft, so you stay in control of what gets published.
Open Coach in Goals
Access the Coach panel from the main Goals page and start a conversation about the goal you're planning to create. Coach appears as a side panel next to your existing goals. The panel opens on its own when you land on the Goals page, unless you've already closed it during the same session on your browser.
Go to Goals from your home page.
If the panel is closed, select Coach at the top right of the page.
If you have never used Coach before, accept the consent screen. If you decline, the panel closes.
Choose a starter prompt, or type your own message.

Tell Coach what you want to achieve
Describe the goal in your own words, and keep in mind that Coach can only help to draft one goal at a time.
What to share: what you want to achieve, where you are now, and the target you are aiming for.
Numbers: Coach asks for your starting value and target instead of making these up.
Goal type: Coach decides whether your goal is an Individual goal (with key results) or a Development goal (with actions), based on your inputs.
Manager check: when success depends on people or decisions outside your control, Coach can suggest checking with your manager before you publish.
Coach draws on the following information to make its suggestions:
Your goals: your own published goals, up to 10, most recently updated first.
Company goals: published company goals, up to 10, most recently updated first.
Group goals: published goals of groups you belong to, up to 10, most recently updated first.
Your review and feedback history: reviews your manager has written about you, your own self-reflections, and Anytime Feedback and shoutouts about you, from roughly the past year. Coach uses these as background, mainly when you ask about them or when it has little else to go on.
Coach cannot see your draft goals or archived goals, so it cannot reference everything you may have written in the past.
ℹ️ Note: If Coach mentions one of your existing goals during the conversation, click on it to see the goal title, type, and owners. If you need to view more details about a referenced goal, you can click View goal.
Review and edit the draft goal
When Coach has enough detail about your goal, it shows a Draft goal card in the conversation. Nothing is saved until you select Create draft, so you have a chance to review and apply any edits before confirming it as a draft.
The card opens in Preview and shows these fields:
Goal type: Individual goal or Development goal. You cannot change it.
Goal title: the proposed title.
Goal description: the proposed description.
Key results: shown for an Individual goal.
Actions: shown for a Development goal.
To change the draft before you save it:
Select Edit. The card shows editable fields, and the Edit button becomes Preview.
Change the Goal title or Goal description.
Change each key result or action.
Key result: edit the name, the Result measure, the Start value and the Target value.
Action: edit the name.
Add or remove rows as needed.
Select Add key result or Add action to add a row.
Select the remove button (x) on a row to delete it.
A goal can have up to 20 key results or 20 actions.
Select Preview to check your changes. Your edits stay in place when you switch between Edit and Preview.
The Result measure has two options:
Numeric: the start and target values are plain numbers.
Percentage: the values are tracked as percentages. Preview and the saved summary show a percent sign, but you type plain numbers, for example 40 and not 40%.
To discard the draft, you have two options:
Cancel: the card changes to "Cancelled draft goal" and Coach asks if you want to continue.
Sending a new message: typing a message while the card is showing also cancels it.
Save the draft goal
Once you are happy with the details on the goal preview card, you are ready to save it as a draft.
Select Create draft.
Check the confirmation, which shows "Goal created" and "Added to your goals", followed by a summary of the goal as it was saved, including your edits.
Select View goal to open the goal in a new tab.
The saved goal has these properties:
Status: Draft. Coach never publishes it.
Owner: You (and anybody else you may have added).
Visibility: Private.
Due date: The end date of your account's current Goal Cycle (unless specific date is specified)
Connections: None. Coach does not connect the goal to other goals.
If a field needs fixing, the draft goal will not save successfully. It opens in Edit and marks the field for your review (see Troubleshooting below).
ℹ️ Note: Private does not mean only you can see the goal. Your manager and administrators can also view it, and so can any other owners or key result owners you add, as with any Private goals in Culture Amp.
Finish and publish your goal
Open the draft in Goals to review it, make any final edits if needed, and publish it when you are ready. See Creating and Aligning Individual Goals for visibility, owners, alignment, and publishing.
💡 Limitations
Coach in Goals helps you draft one goal at a time, with the following limitations:
Publishing: Coach saves a draft only. You publish the goal yourself.
Existing goals: Coach does not change or delete goals that already exist.
Group and company goals: Coach cannot create these. It drafts Individual goals and Development goals.
Connections/Alignments: Coach does not connect your goal to other goals.
Performance improvement plans: Coach will not draft a goal that is part of one.
Promotion, rating, pay rise or bonus: Coach will not draft a goal whose outcome is one of these. It suggests a conversation with your manager and offers a Development goal instead.
Troubleshooting
'Enter a name for this key result', or 'Enter a name for this action'
Type a name in the highlighted field, or remove the row, then select Create draft again.
Enter a number
Enter a plain number in the Start value or Target value field, then select Create draft again. Values with commas, such as 1,000, are not accepted, and neither are written numbers (e.g one thousand).
The Coach button is missing
Ask your Account Administrator to check the Coach settings for Goals, as it may not yet be enabled. The button is also not available on the 'Copy goal' page, and it hides while the panel is already open.
If you see a "Write better goals with Coach" banner on the Create goal page, Coach in goals is not yet available to you. This banner would instead open general AI coach in a new tab, which does not have the full drafting capabilities.
The buttons on the Draft goal card are grayed out
Wait until Coach finishes writing, then use the card again. The buttons are also off for a card that is no longer the newest message, so use the newest card.

No. Your interactions with AI Coach are private, and no one else in your organization, including your manager or administrators, can see them. Administrators and your direct manager, however, will be able to see your finalized goal that is saved as a draft.
