View an employee's highlights and opportunities

View an AI-generated summary of an employee's strengths and growth areas.

Written by Jessie Walsh

🔐 Who can use this feature?

What highlights and opportunities show you

See an employee's recurring strengths (Highlights) and growth areas (Opportunities) without reading through every piece of feedback yourself. Highlights and Opportunities is an AI-generated summary of an employee's recent feedback.

  • Highlights: up to three recurring strengths, based on positive and recognition-style feedback.

  • Opportunities: up to three recurring growth areas, based on constructive feedback.

The summary draws on self-reflections, peer feedback, upward feedback, past manager reviews, anytime feedback, and Shoutouts recognition. Shoutouts are only included when they reinforce a theme that also shows up in other feedback, not on their own.

Turn on AI settings for your account

An administrator needs to turn on your account's AI settings before anyone can use Highlights and Opportunities.

  1. Go to Admin > Performance > Performance cycles.

  2. Open AI settings.

  3. Turn on the AI settings toggle.

ℹ️ Note: This one setting also turns on Suggest Improvements, and extends both features to probation reviews. It applies to your whole account. You can't turn it on for a single review cycle only.

View highlights and opportunities for an employee

  1. Open the employee's manager review.

  2. Open their employee profile panel.

  3. Select Highlights and opportunities.

    • If this option doesn't appear, your account's AI settings may not be turned on yet. See Turn on AI settings above.

  4. (Optional) Use the time frame selector to choose how far back the summary looks: 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. It's set to 6 months by default.

  5. Select a highlight or opportunity to expand it and see the feedback behind it.

    • Select View feedback on an excerpt to see the full feedback it came from.

    • An excerpt labeled "Not shared with [employee]" comes from feedback the employee hasn't seen themselves, such as private peer, upward, or anytime feedback.

Rate the accuracy of a summary

Use the Is this helpful? thumbs up or thumbs down icons at the bottom of the panel to tell Culture Amp whether a summary was accurate.

  • Choosing either option opens a short, optional form where you can explain why. This helps improve the AI over time.

💡 Tip: Always check the original feedback behind a highlight or opportunity before acting on it. The AI surfaces patterns, but your own judgment still matters.

What you'll see if there isn't enough feedback yet

Highlights and Opportunities needs enough recent feedback to identify a pattern before it can generate a summary.

  • No feedback yet: if there's no recent feedback at all, you'll see a message that more feedback is needed about the employee.

  • Feedback requested but not completed: if feedback has been requested for the employee but hasn't come in yet, you'll see a message that Culture Amp is waiting on it, along with a list of what's still outstanding.

Who can see highlights and opportunities

  • Employees can't see their own Highlights and Opportunities.

  • It only appears on the editable Manager Review form. It isn't shown in any other view of the review.

Supported languages

Highlights and Opportunities works in multiple languages, as long as the language is enabled for that performance review cycle. How refined the AI's output is depends on the language.

  • Fully supported: AI performance is most accurate and refined.

  • Supported: the feature works, but AI suggestions may be less refined than in a fully supported language. You'll see a note in the panel letting you know.

Support level

Languages

Fully supported

English, English (UK), Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish, Spanish (Latin America)

Supported

Chinese (Traditional), Danish, Dutch, French Canadian, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Polish, Russian, Swedish, Thai, Ukrainian, Vietnamese

If the language selected for that review isn't in either list, Highlights and Opportunities still works. It uses the cycle's default language instead, or English if that isn't supported either.

For more on language support across Culture Amp's AI features, see Supported languages and product coverage.

If you notice a translation issue, use the Is this helpful? option at the bottom of the panel to let us know.

Troubleshooting

  • Highlights and opportunities won't load: Select Try again on the error message. If it still won't load, refresh the page or try again later.

  • The summary is showing in English instead of the review's selected language: Ask your Performance administrator to confirm that language was enabled when the performance cycle was set up. If it wasn't, the summary falls back to the cycle's default language instead.

FAQ

Can I filter the summary by feedback source?

Not currently. You can adjust the time frame the summary covers, but you can't filter it by feedback source, such as peer feedback or Shoutouts, on its own.
