Create an action plan from a survey report

Save a draft action plan for a focus area without leaving your survey report.

Written by Jared Ellis

🔐 Who can use this feature?

An action plan records what you and your team will do about a focus area from your survey results. You start the plan from the survey report you are already viewing, choose a focus area, and save it as a draft, so you can capture an idea straight after reviewing results without losing your place.

You finish the plan afterwards in the Action plans list, where you add action items, a target group, and visibility settings.

Create a draft plan from your results

Open the Create action plan panel

  1. Open a survey report that has Take action turned on.

  2. Select Take action in the report header.

  3. Select Create action plan from the dropdown.

  • From a notification: If you open the report from a notification, the Create action plan panel may already be open.

  • From a question: Open the insight panel for a question, then select Take action. The plan is created for that question as its focus area.

⚠️ Don't see the dropdown and Create action plan option? Your survey is on the legacy Action Framework experience.

Step 1: Choose a focus area

  1. Under Where do you want to focus?, select a focus area card.

    • Green flag icon: You flagged this question as a focus area in the report.

    • Green bar on the left edge: The Focus agent recommends this question because it is likely to have the most impact.

    • Impact: Each card shows an impact rating, from Insignificant to Extreme, or N/A when there is not enough data.

  2. Select Browse all focus areas to see every focus area if yours is not in the shortlist of seven.

  3. Select Continue.

If you opened the panel from a question, this step is skipped and that question is used. To switch to a different focus area, select Change on the summary card in the next step.

Step 2: Describe the action

  1. Under What action will you take?, enter a Plan title. A title is required.

  2. Enter a Description (optional).

  3. Select Start from a suggested action plan to fill the title and description from an approach that has worked before. You can still edit both fields.

  4. Check the Owner field. It starts as you. Select Add another owner to add more owners.

  5. Set a Due date. It starts three months from today.

  6. Select Save as draft.

ℹ️ Note: Drafts are visible only to you and the owners.

Step 3: Continue editing or return later

After you save, the panel shows Saved as a draft.

  • Edit action plan: Opens the plan so you can add action items, a target group, and visibility settings.

  • Go to Action Plan dashboard: Opens the Action plans list.

  • Create another action plan: Starts another plan for the same survey.

What is set for you automatically?

  • Visibility: A new plan is Private until you change it.

  • Target group: If the report was shared with a single demographic value (for example, Region: APAC), the plan's target group is set to that value. Otherwise no target group is set, and you choose one before you publish.

  • Source: The survey and the focus area are saved on the plan as its source and cannot be changed later.

The plan is not visible to anyone else and has no action items until you edit and publish it. To finish it, see next steps.
